The much awaited 2012 Presidential Initiative on sports programme is expected to get underway this coming Saturday and the organisers have put in place a number of activities to spice up the launching ceremony scheduled to take place at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Saturday February 18th.
President Bingu wa Mutharika who is the official sponsor of the programme is expected to be the guest of honour.
Among other things, there will be live band performance by the countries number one reggae outfit Black Missionaries, boxing match between Wilson Masamba and Chrispin Moliati, a soccer match between TNM Super League Champions for 2011-2012 Silver Strikers and the presidential cup defending champions Mighty Wanderers, netball among others.
Presidential initiative on sports is a programme which was started by president Mutharika and is aimed at promoting a number of sporting activities.
In this year’s competition, the organizers have included the game of beach soccer on top of other traditional games like football, netball,
chess and many others. Meanwhile the boxing fraternity has appealed to the sponsor and organizers of the programme to consider including boxing on the list of sporting activities.
Wilson Masamba a boxer who will be in the ring on Saturday in front of thousands of people including the head of state said this is a chance to show the present how good Malawian boxers are.
“I am prepared to face Moliati and this is the time also to show president Mutharika that we have good boxers in Malawi hence we need
support” Said Masamba.
