Former National Campaign Director for Democratic Progressive Party, Frank Tumpale Mwenefumbo on Thursday swallowed his pride and apologized to the public and the Nation newspaper for his order to civil servants not to buy Nation Newspaper.
Mwenefumbo made the apology when he announced his defection to the People’s Party together with six others at a press briefing held in Mzuzu.
In March this year Mwenefumbo told a rally in Zomba ordering the civil servants to stop buying Nation Newspaper arguing that the paper was being disrespectful to the then President Bingu Wa Mutharika.
Mwenefumbo statements attracted condemnation from different sectors.
“Yesterday I made an effort to meet the owner of the Nation Publications Limited Mrs Mbumba to apologize and explain the circumstances that led me to say that.
“Mbumba said she has forgiven me on behalf of the Nation Publications Limited and said she hoped such things would never happen again,” said Mwenefumbo sounding emotional.
“I also would like to take this opportunity to apologize to Malawi as a nation for giving such a directive that civil servants should stop buying Nation Newspaper,” explained Mwenefumbo.
“I Thing you have forgiven me,” he added.
