JANUARY 29, MANA: About 14,134 hunger stricken households in Blantyre will from February start receiving maize as part of the Malawi Vulnerable Assessment Committee (MVAC) humanitarian response programme.
In an interview on Tuesday to Malawi News Agency (Mana), Blantyre District Disaster Risk Management Officer, Walusungu Mwafulirwa said government has endorsed distribution of maize food to affected families starting mid-February.
“Government, through the Department of Disaster Management Affairs, will implement 2019/2020 MVAC humanitarian response programme targeting 14,134 households in Blantyre rural,” he said.
Mwafulirwa said based on the report, the response would be implemented for only two months.
“Each household will be entitled for a 50 kg bag of maize and this would be for only the month of February and March,” the Officer explained.
Meanwhile, the District Office has appealed to leaders to join hands and facilitate registration process of vulnerable households.
