Mulanje Woman Burns Son’s Lips, Neck for Stealing Relish

Police in Mulanje have arrested a 37 year-old-woman for allegedly scorching her five year old son for stealing Mlamba Fish that she prepared for a meal.

Mulanje Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Blessings Gama told Malawi News Agency (Mana) on Tuesday that last week Loveness Fabiano cooked the said relish and left for an unknown destination, leaving the child alone and when she reported back she realised that some relish were missing in the pot.

“Fabiano enquired from her son who denied any criminal liability. However, with anger, she took burning firewood and scorched her son on his lips, neck and chest before leaving home.

“Hearing unstoppable crying of the boy, his aunt (Loneness’ sister) came only to find the boy in scalds and she rushed with him to Mulanje District Hospital where he was admitted,” he explained.

Gama said the following morning, the victim’s mother followed them and she was apprehended by police officers who went there after hearing the news.

In the meantime, the suspect is still in custody waiting to appear in court when investigations are through.

Loveness hails from Makuluni Village, Traditional Authority (TA) Njema in the district.
