Malawi MPs Heckle “Terrorists (Zifwamba)” Mtambo, Trapence Out Of Parliament

Members of Parliament on Tuesday heckled out of the House Timothy Mtambo and Gift Trapence chanting them terrorists “Zifwamba!” “Zifwamba!”, “Zifwamba!” as they disgracefully marched out.

Mtambo and Trapence barged into Parliament after they threatened to monitor MPs conduct on debate on electoral reforms bill.

They had threatened violent action against MPs who would vote against the bills which were scheduled to be tabled today.

And when they walked into the visitors’ gallery this afternoon, MPs protested their presence. This forced the Speaker to suspend proceedings for the Business Committee to discuss the matter.

The committee resolved to have Mtambo and Trapence kicked out. And the MPs accorded the two a March of Shame out of Parliament chanting “Zifwamba!” “Zifwamba!” “Zifwamba!”

This was in reference to the political violence Mtambo and Trapence in conjunction with Lazarus Chakwera and Saulos Chilima have unleashed on the nation since the elections last year.

In protest against Chakwera and Chilima’s loss in the election, they have been organizing violent demonstrations during which they beat up innocent Malawians, burn government offices, damage shops and steal from them.

One of their grossest forms of violence was stripping a female police officer naked and killing one of them, Supt Imedi Usumani, through stoning in Lilongwe.

Their violence has earned them the description of “Zifwamba” (terrorists) among Malawians.
