WaterAid in Malawi on Friday responded to the threat of Covid-19 by handing over essential supplies to Lilongwe City Council (LCC) to help in the fight against the spread of the disease.
COVID-19, which is now a global issue, was first discovered in December 2019 in Wuhan City in China.
The disease has affected several countries in the world including neighbouring countries such as Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Zambia.
Although there no case has been detected in Malawi yet, several stakeholders have quickly responded by increasing preventive measures.
In a press release issued on Friday after handing over the supplies, Country Director for WaterAid in Malawi, Mercy Maso said that in emergency situations, the organization believes in collaboration to achieve maximum results.
“We have handed over some supplies to Lilongwe City Council because we recognize the council’s role in promoting sanitation and hygiene.
The materials we have supplied will help them do their work and promote the preventive measures that have been put in placetowards the fight against the pandemic in the city,” she said.
Lilongwe City Mayor Juliana Kaduya commended WaterAid in Malawi for providing the supplies.
“I have put on a mask that is why you cannot see my smile but I am very happy right now that WaterAid has made this timely intervention.
Our work is made easy because of the support that we receive. We will do our best to prevent the spread of Coronavirus,” said Kaduya
Apart from providing the supplies to the council, WaterAid in Malawi will provide essential supplies in the areas they work.
