I have a very huge problem with how Saulos Chilima of UTM Party and Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) are handling issues of national importance. They are doing it as individuals or individual parities when they are in an alliance.
I am of course ignorant about the modus operandi of the UTM-MCP alliance but I am very sure that if this alliance must have electoral success at any point in time, then Chilima and Chakwera must start working together- MCP and UTM must work together on everything.
Their alliance is very complicated and delicate because they have the type of followers who can hardly get along. They are not comfortable with the alliance and that’s very dangerous because an alliance is about the supporters for they are the voters not the leaders.
UTM and MCP supporters must see their leaders’ frequently together and issuing public statements/ TV and radio pressers together in the name of the alliance. This will help supporters to get used to the idea of their unity, accept each other, learn to fight together and eventually vote together.
Otherwise this alliance will fail at the ballot if at all it gets that far because leaders still want to out shine each other and remain in the limelight. Mukapitiliza zimenezo musadzatisokose. Paja mumalira mokweza!!
For the first time I support the post from Malawi Voice. This was a very correct observation. Thank you.
