The Malawi Police in Nkhotakota district have launched a massive manhunt for unknown people who mercilessly murdered two people for suspecting them to be bloodsuckers.
Nkhotakota Police Public Relations Officer, Williams Kaponda confirmed the development on Monday. He said the two were killed at Sani Mountain where they went for night of Prayers on 19 April 2020.
According to the watchman at a mobile network tower at the top of Sani Mountain, during the night, two people approached him to inform him of being within the mountain for overnight prayers.
However, while there, people from around Sani villages approached and angrily confronted the watchman of the presence of strange people around their area. They accused the security guard of shielding bloodsuckers.
Thereafter, the villagers searched for the two and upon finding them they descended on them and mercilessly stoned them to death at Chamba. Then they set blaze the victims’ motor vehicle.
The deceased have been identified as Benedicto Jason Kantchere (41) of Chikango village in the area of T/A Mwansambo and Dickson Gwirize, (age not known) of Tongole village in the area of T/A Mphonde all from Nkhotakota district.
