Covid-19 Cases Rise Rapidly in Malawi…From 23 to 33 Within 24 hours

Chairperson for Special cabinet committee on COVID-19 Jappie Mhango announces 10 more news cases from Kaliyeka

The number of Covid-19 cases continues to double in Malawi, with 10 new cases confirmed on Thursday morning bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 33, including 3 deaths.

Minister of Health Jappie Mhango, who is also Chairperson for Special Cabinet Committee of Coronavirus, confirmed the new cases through a press briefing in Lilongwe.  

He said all the 10 cases are from Kaliyeka in Lilongwe where they came in contact with the case that was reported recently , now deceased.

“Let me inform the nation that we have registered additional 10 cases in the last 24 hours. The cases from Kaliyeka are coming from the primary contacts of the 4 confirmed cases that we announce yesterday.

“We had followed contacts and collected 24 samples and out of these 10 were confirmed to be positive. For now we have 33 cases and out these 3 have died 3 recovered and 27 active cases,” said Mango

The Minister further appealed to members of the general public to continue with practicing the preventive measures such as washing hands adequately and staying in-doors.
