Malawi Covid-19 Cases Reach 36

Chairperson for the Special Cabinet Committee on Coronavirus, Jappie Mhango on Monday confirmed two new cases of Covid-19 bringing the total number of confirmed cases in Malawi to 36 including 3 deaths.

Mhango, who is also Minister of Health, made the announcement during a media briefing in Lilongwe.  He said the new cases have been registered in Blantyre and Lilongwe.

According to Mhango, one case is a 47 years old man from Chileka Blantyre, who returned from Tanzania on 18th April and the other Patient is a 29 years old man from Livimbo in area 2 Lilongwe, who has no history of recent travel.

Meanwhile, health officials are doing contact tracing to test all persons who were in contact with the patients.

“Our team is today going to take samples from other family members. We will do contact tracing to all workers at his business premises and other close contacts,” said Mhango

The Minister has since urged members of the general public to continue observing prevention guidelines such as washing hands with soap, observing social distance among others.
