Covid-19 Hits Malawi Hard, Cases Rise to 37

Malawi government through the Minister of Health, Jappie Mhango has confirmed a new case of Covid-19 bringing the total number of cases to 37 in the country.

Mhango confirmed the development on Thursday during a press briefing held at Capitol Hill in Lilongwe. He said the case is of 40-year old man from Mzuzu who recently travelled to Tanzania.

“In the past 24 hours, a new case has been confirmed by a laboratory at Mzuzu Central Hospital. The person is a 40-year-old gentleman who returned from Mbeya, Tanzania on 27 April, 2020,” confirmed Mhango

According to Mhango, Health workers are tracing all the contacts of this person so that they can be isolated, followed up and tested for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the country has 37 confirmed cases of Covid-19, including three deaths and seven recoveries.

  1. Why? I thought this guy was supposed to be quarantined upon entry. This has nothing to do with lockdown but entry into the country!
