Muluzi Drums Up Support For DPP-UDF Alliance

By Maxwell Kudzala

Mangochi, May 11, Mana: Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)-United Democratic Front (UDF) Alliance running mate, Atupele Muluzi on Saturday stormed Mangochi in style where he urged people to vote for the DPP-UDF Alliance in large numbers in the July 02 fresh presidential election.

Muluzi who embarked on whistle stops from Blantyre, arrived at Mangochi Boma at exactly 17:40hrs and addressed thousands of people who had gathered at the main round-about from around 14:30hrs.

He urged those who registered with MEC but did not cast their votes in the previous tripartite election to participate in the coming fresh elections to ensure that Professor Peter Mutharika gets re-elected.

“Everybody knows that our president is a peace loving leader; he is a president who loves his country and he also pushes forward the development agenda for our nation from Nsanje to Chitipa,” Muluzi said.

“Here in the eastern region, we want the president to win with more than 80 percent,” he added.

Muluzi also said the DPP-led government should be re-elected into power since it had already proved to be fighting for economic empowerment by providing access to loans.

He described his appointment as running mate for the alliance as another sign of youth empowerment being exercised by the current government.

“The president already set aside funds to be given out as loans to women; the elderly and THE youth in the country so that they can support their businesses,” said Muluzi.

“The president always empowers the youth; he wants to make sure that the youth are in higher positions so that they can empower their fellow youths and that’s the reason he has chosen me, so that I can take charge of leading the process of empowering the youth,” he said.

Earlier, Member of Parliament for Mangochi Central, Victoria Kingston welcomed Muluzi and recognized Mangochi as a strong hold for the DPP-UDF Alliance.

Kingston, however, asked Muluzi to organise a proper mass rally for the district.

Mangochi was the last stop on the list for Muluzi’s whistle-stop tour which started from Thondwe Trading Centre in Zomba.
