Malawi opposition leader Kondwani Nankhumwa, who is Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the South, has donated bags of fertilizer and Maize seeds to persons with albinism to mark International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Honourable Nankhumwa made the donation on Thursday after hosting a group called Poor and Concerned Person with Albinism (PACPWA) at his Luchenza residence in Mulanje district.
In his remarks opposition Leader, Nankhumwa expressed the need to empower people with albinism in the country with food and other assorted items.
“Much as the physical security of the people with albinism is important but we must also cultivate other ways of empowering people with albinism with food security also as a top priority as most of them are discriminated in our society,’ said Nankhumwa
Nankhumwa lamented over the continued behavior of some evil people who are hell bent to sideline people with albinism in the society and continue to attack them for their barbaric myths which are ungodly and ‘unholy’ in the eyes of the Almighty God.
“Overall, people with albinism encounter a range of cultural and social barriers that have strong and sometimes negative impact on their mental and social well-being,” bemoaned Nankhumwa
Chairperson of PACPWA Francis Masambuka commended Nankhumwa for his continued support to the organization.
International Day of People with Disability (IDPWD) is a United Nations-sanctioned day that is celebrated internationally on 3 December.
