Standard Bank Dominates 2020 Marketing Excellence Awards: Sweeps 7 Categories

Standard Bank Plc is the main winner of the 2020 Institute of Marketers Malawi (IMM) Marketing Excellence Awards in recognition of its brand transition from “Moving Forward” to “It can Be”.

(IMM) Marketing Excellence Awards Chief Judge Mercus Chigoga singled out Standard Bank Plc for outstanding creative work around the “It Can Be” executions, which earned the bank the Campaign of Year and its Marketing Division Head Thoko Unyolo Marketer of Year accolades. And for contributing to the Campaign of Year award, Standard Bank’s media agency FD Communications Ltd scooped the Advertising Agency of Year award.

“It Can Be was awarded for demonstrating great insight and outstanding creative ideas that ran through executions across multiple media platforms and touch points without being ever monotonous,” said Chigoga, adding “The campaign also distinguished itself as an excellent adaptation of an international communication which was turned into locally relevant scenarios, with high performance impact, both internally and externally.”

The bank’s seven awards included Marketing Campaign of the Year, Best Commercial (TV), Commercial of the Year (Outdoor), Commercial of the Year (Print), Digital Marketing Initiative of the Year, Most Visible Brand of the Year.

For the second time the bank’s Head Marketing and Communications – was adjudged Marketer of the Year, becoming the first woman to win the award twice, having first won in 2017.  

Unyolo paid tribute to the support she gets from fellow Standard Bank employees, management and customers for supporting the Marketing and Communication’s department role. “As a bank, we are also grateful to all those who do business with us and remain loyal to us over the years,” she said.

On how the awards will make business sense going forward, Unyolo said: “The awards reflect on how people relate to our brand. Every Malawian has potential to meet their respective aspirations and they need a bank that turns that dream into reality. Standard Bank will continue bringing innovations that improve lives and help people achieve their dreams,” said Unyolo.

Besides the seven awards for Standard Bank, its advertising and Public Relations agency, FD Communications Limited was crowned Advertising Agency of the Year, the fourth time for the media relations and communications firm to achieve the feat.
