Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has been commended for making another robust contribution to the education sector in the country by donating K10 million to a project aimed at providing free meals to primary school pupils in rural areas to fight malnutrition and increase enrolment.
Bushiriβwho has over 200 learners on his bursary in different secondary schools and colleges in the countryβmade the gesture on Friday night during the launch of Kids Kitchen on the Wheels project, implemented by an organisation called Savers From The Heart.
The ECG leaderβwho two months ago handed over to government a modern secondary school be built in Rumphiβsaid his contribution doesnβt mean he has money but because he has passion for education of the children in country.
βAs you all know, poverty remains a challenge in the country especially in rural areas. We still have a lot of people including children who have no access to food and basic needs. We still have a lot of people in the country languishing in poverty. As such, initiatives like Kids Kitchen on wheels needs our support.
βThat is why I am here to give my full support and commitment to this initiative. Because I know that by supporting school feeding programs, we will increase school enrolment, we will decrease school dropouts and contribute to poverty reduction,β said Bushiri.
Savers From The Heart executive director Eve Chirambo hailed Bushiriβs donation, saying it will go a long way to help implement their K43 million project of providing meals to school going primary school learners in the rural areas.
Several other organisations and individuals took part in the fundraising. Among others, it included banks such as National Bank, MyBucks, FDH Bank and Standard Bank.
Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Nsinja South Hon Francis Belekanyama also attended the event, committing to support communities with construction of boreholes. He also made towering remarks of gratitude to Prophet Bushiri.
According to Chirambo, they intend to raise the K43 million so that they can be able to implement the project across the country.
The concerted effort of the private sector, Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, the government official and others to finance Kids Kitchen on the Wheels is to be commended.
Savers From The Heart is a worthy organization to rally behind. Providing free meals to primary school learners in rural areas is noble, and a great investment.
The aim is “to increase enrollment, decrease dropouts, and contribute to poverty reduction”. Also, Malawi’s School Feeding Project helps learners to focus, concentrate and not repeat grades. Behavior, language and motor skills are positively affected. Parents/guardians will see their children growing.
Savers From The Heart is a fitting title because Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has a generous heart. K10million helps the organization immensely. May God continue to bless Prophet Shepherd Bushiri in order that he continues to be a blessing.
