Former Malawi President Professor Peter Mutharika is due to make his first public appearance tomorrow on Sunday since leaving state house in June 2020.
Professor Mutharika, who is also Mulhako Wa Alhomwe Patron, is expected to preside over Mulhako Wa Alhomwe annual festival at Chonde in Mulanje district.
Mulhako’s Chairperson Leston Mulli confirmed the development on Friday during the first day of Mulhako feast.
Mulli was commenting to social media rumors suggesting that Mutharika will shun the celebrations due to security reasons.
“Our patron Professor Peter Mutharika will attend Mulhako Wa Alhomwe feast on Sunday as the Guest of Honor,” said Mulli adding that: “Professor Mutharika is not a coward to shun the Mulhako feast.”
Mulhako WA Alomwe Festival Started on Friday at it will end on Sunday at Chonde in Mulanje district.
Mulhako wa Alhomwe was formed in 2007 to promote Lhomwe culture by among other objectives, instilling a sense of pride in its people.
The formation of the organization revived some of the cultural practices that had been on the death bed.
Lhomwes are largely concentrated in Chiradzulu, Mulanje, Phalombe, Thyolo and some parts of Blantyre and Zomba.
