Salima-Lilongwe Water Project Irks Activist Salamu

Salamu: Water is life

Social media influencer and commentator Rhodney Salamu has expressed disappointment over the delay by the Tonse Alliance administration to commerce the multi-billion kwacha Salima-Lilongwe water pipeline project.

In a Video clip Salamu said President Lazarus Chakwera and the Minster responsible should come out and tell Malawians the reasons behind the delay. He said government is to blame over the delay.

“We are demanding President Chakwera to tell Malawians why it is taking time to start the project,” said Salamu adding that Khato Civils- a company contracted to do the work should be cleared to start the work as soon as possible.

According to the fearless social activist Salamu, the Salima-Lilongwe water project will help to address water challenges in Lilongwe and surrounding district hence the need to speed up the project.

“The project is very vital to the nation; it will help to address water challenges and issues of sanitations in the country. The project will help the current and future generation” said Salamu a less than five minutes video clip.

He further said: “We the rapid urbanization and population growth people will be struggling to access clean water hence the need to implement the project before things are out of hand.”’

According to recent study, by 2045 Africa population will be at 2 billion and Malawi will go up to 35 Million which will create demand on essential services such as clean water.

The Lilongwe-Salima Water Supply Project has always stirred controversy as the project, for years, failed to roll out.

The project, if done, is expected to provide water to the city of Lilongwe via a 120-kilometre pipeline from Lake Malawi.
