Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Public Accounts Committee of Parliament (PAC) members have submitted a notice to the Speaker of National Assembly to impeach the committee’s chairperson, Shadreck Namalomba.
One of the members of the committee, George Zulu said they want to impeach Namalomba for his serious misconduct and misbehavior which has been occasioned by his inability to provide objective leadership as anticipated by standing order 171(4)(c).
He said Namalomba issued a statement in defence of the former Head of State Professor Peter Mutharika on a matter that is under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
Governance commentator Moses Mkandawire thinks it would be wrong to “victimize” Namalomba as he was only discharging his duties as the party’s spokesperson and not as an individual.
