Lilongwe, November 7, Mana: President, Dr Lazarus Chakwera, on Sunday morning symbolically teed off at this year’s annual Military Veterans Charity Golf Tournament at Lilongwe Golf Club.
Upon his arrival at the venue, President Chakwera was welcomed by Vice President, Dr Saulos Chilima, who is also competing in the tournament.
At exactly 08:40am, the First Citizen entered the Tee Box and under guidance of Dr Chilima, he teed off a long shot which attracted applause from the sizeable crowd.
The Vice President shortly followed suit finishing off in style before leaving the stage for Lieutenant General Dr. Paul Valentino Phiri who is the Deputy Malawi Defence Force Commander.
War veteran, Gilbert Labani, was the last to symbolically tee off as he preceeded Board Chairperson of NBS Bank, Mr Vizenge Kumwenda.
Before his immediate departure, President Chakwera posed for a group photo with the Vice President, cabinet ministers, war veterans and other senior executive officers.
Meanwhile, the State President, who jetted in last Saturday from Scotland, is expected to make a speech later in the afternoon at 15:00 before prize presentation ceremony of the tournament which has attracted a big number of individuals.
At the ceremony, there will also be an auction whose proceeds will be channeled towards funding the welfare of all military veterans who served in World War 1, World 2 and other subsequent battles in the Malawi Defence Force.
