High Court in Blantyre has stopped Lawyer Lusungu Gondwe and Ritz Attorneys from representing business tycoon Thomson Mpinganjira in his application for bail pending appeal.
This follows an application by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) lawyer Chikumbutso Harawa, who argued that there was an order made by Justice Nyakaunda Kamanga banning lawyer Lusungu Gondwe and Rits Attorney at Law from representing Mpinganjira, on the way they conducted themselves in a case whereby the warrant of arrest was vacated.
However, defence lawyer, Lozindaba Mbvundula,counterargued that the ruling was pending investigation by the Malawi Law Society (MLS).
In his ruling High Court Judge John Chirwa said Judge Nyakaunda Kamanga’s ruling banning Ritz is binding but all the documents filed by the company remain part of the file.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mpinganjira will be represented by Alexious Nampota and Fostino Maele.
Business mogul Dr. Mpinganjira currently serving a 9-year jail term at Chichiri Prison on his attempted judge bribery case.
