Kasungu, November 22, Mana: Minister of Information and Information Technology Gospel Kazako has said that media is key in shaping the mindset and culture of the citizenry.
The minister was speaking during the official launch of Mthunthama Broadcasting Station (MBS) in Kasungu on Monday.
Kazako said he was excited that there are more media outlets that are being established in the country because when they are more there is quality of output contributing to social construction.
“Media houses are very key in the sense that they are heavily involved in the process of social construction. They are involved in how people view things, how people form perceptions, how people act, how people react and how people make choices,
I was just reminding the media houses that they have to be responsible because radio can do two things, it can destroy and it can build, and now we must concentrate on the building aspect of the radio,”said Kazako.
The minister said he hopes that that Mtunthama, which is a regional broadcaster, will help government explaining certain things to the public.
Managing Director of MBS Apostle Killion Shawa said the station stands out from many radio stations because it brings in new things that others miss.
“Our slogan is voice of truthand we are here to bring the truth which is not distorted by taking the truth from the scene to the listener,” said Shawa.
MBS becomes a second radio station broadcasting from Kasungu after Kasungu Community Radio Station.
Gracing the official launch were notable figures like Member of Parliament for Kasungu Central Ken Kandodo, Mayor for Kasungu Municipality Socrates Jere, Senior chiefs Lukwa and Kaomba, District Commissioner James Kanyangalazi, Chief Executive Officer for Kasungu Municipality Fanny Msimuko and Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) officials among others.
