Nearly Twenty people, who took part in last Friday’s anti-President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse Alliance administration demonstration, are in police custody in Lilongwe.
Inspector General of Malawi Police Service (MPs), Dr. George Kainja confirmed the development in an interview with a local media on Wednesday.
According to Kainja, the suspects are suspected to have vandalized private and public properties during the protest.
Kainja indicated that it is worrisome that people were found on the wrong side of the law when demonstrations were supposed to be peaceful.
During the protests some unruly protestors started vandalizing some shops after police had fired tear gas.
However, the organizer for the demonstrations Bon Kalindo accused the police for worsening the situation.
