Road users continue to cough more on Chingeni Tollgate close to 24 hours after Government announced slashed-down fees.
The Roads Fund Administration (RFA)- which ironically is a Government agency-says Government not officially communicated on the changes.
Last night, Minister of Information Gospel Kazako revealed that the government had resolved to reduce tolling tariffs for some selected types of vehicles.
The decision came as a resolution in a meeting several cabinet ministers held with leader of the Malawi Sali Bwino street protest Bon Kalindo over issues which were raised in a petition that was delivered after demonstrations last week.
One of the demands in the petition was for the authorities to lower the tolling tariffs as there are concerns that they are too high. For minibus drivers the amount has been reduced from MK3,400 to MK2,000.
Fees have also been reduced for bus operators from MK8,500 to MK5,000. But speaking to the media, Spokesperson for the RFA, Masauko Ngwaluko, states that they are yet to be officially communicated on the matter and will wait the authority’s guidance on the same.
