Comedian-cum politician Bon ‘Winiko’ Kalindo has strongly warned Inspector General Police George Kainja and Minister of Homeland Security Richard Chimwendo Banda against any move to frustrate anti-government demonstrations in Mzuzu today.
The warning follows a letter from Mzuzu City Council prohibiting the fearless freedom fighter Kalindo and other demonstrators from using planned route but rather they start from Upper Stadium through Anglican Church to Civic Offices.
“Therefore, you are requested to follow this route not as indicated in your notification,” reads the letter signed Gomezgani Nyasulu, the Chief Executive Officer (CE0) for Mzuzu city
But in his response the out-spoken Kalindo said changing the route at an eleventh hour is a non-starter and a mockery to the concerned citizens who are struggling due to high cost of living.
“We already agreed on the route with Mzuzu City Council officials, Police and other concerned parties so asking us to change the route at this hour is a non-starter,” said fearless Kalindo in an audio clip made available to the publication.
Kalindo added: “If yo try to provoke us Mzuzu Anukha lero. Inspector General of Police and Homeland Minister tell your boys never try to stop us,” warns Kalindo adding that Malawians has the right to demonstrate peaceful.
