Former Vice President Dr. Cassim Chilumpha has accused President Dr Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse alliance administration of turning Malawi into a failed state.
Dr. Chilumpha, who is also the President for the opposition Assembly for Democracy and Development (ADD), was speaking on Thursday during a presser held in Blantyre.
According to the veteran politician Dr. Chilumpha, the state of the country is proof that government is failing.
He has cited examples of constant blackouts, water shortages and the economic climate as worrisome for Malawians.
Chilumpha has further expressed concern on the rising cost of maize prices “at a time people are harvesting. If a bag of maize is at K17,000 now, how much will it be in December or January?”
The former vice president also says that “people are working but they don’t have money, a sign of leadership failure.”
