Mzuzu, March 27 Mana: Muslim youths have been urged to refrain from spending too much time on social media platforms instead of concentrating on reflecting Qur’an teachings during the Month of Ramadan.
Speaking during Saturday during prayers at Area 1B Mosque in Mzuzu, leader of the mosque, Imam Hanaffie Yusuf said that youths should utilise Ramadan to stay closer to God by reciting the Qur’an.
“Prophet Muhammad said that Ramadan is the month which a person is supposed to do good deeds such as reciting the Qur’an and reading other Islamic books.
During this holy month, youths should practice reading the Qur’an rather than being busy on social media platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp where there can access destructive information,” said Yusuf.
Public Relations Officer for Muslim Youth Society, Hassan Kasamala said muslim youths should balance between using social media and engaging in activities that promote spiritual growth and development such as reading Qur’an.
“During the Month of Ramadan, it is a requirement for all Muslim youths to focus on the Qur’an which is a source of guidance, wisdom and inspiration for Muslims. Reading it can help deepen understanding of Islam while strengthening their relationship with Allah.
Reciting the Qur’an is considered a highly virtuous act in Islam and it holds special significance during the month of Ramadan as it increases one’s rewards from Allah and helps Muslims connect with Allah,” said Kasamala.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic Calendar and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer and reflection.
It is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam and lasts for twenty-nine to thirty days, from one sighting of the crescent moon to the next.
