CHIHANA TO STAND IN 2025 POLLS: Opposes same sex marriage, rips into Chakwera administration

MAN OF THE PEOPLE: Chihana greeting his supporters

As the journey to 2025 tripartite polls starts getting hot, the Alliance for Democracy( AFORD) leader Enoch Kanzingeni Chihana has asked the international community and other stakeholders to respect Malawi’s cultural sacraments on marriage saying ‘marriage is between a man and woman and all must respect that.

Chihana was speaking today at Chibavi Primary School ground in the city of Mzuzu where he held a rally that attracted huge patronage.

In his remarks, the Aford Tsar said the issue of same sex marriage is off the table and the sovereignty of Malawi must be respected.

“Nobody should blackmail us, or intimidate us just because we are poor. Living together as partners and having sexual relationship by same sex individuals…is not comparable with the Indian family unit concept of a husband, a wife and children,” the ministry argued in papers seen by the Reuters news agency but have not been made public

Chihana has become the first top political figure to speak on the controversial issue and declare his stand on the matter.

The issue of same sex marriage is currently in the High Court where members of the LGBTQ community are protesting against the Penal Code that criminalize same sex marriage.

RECORD TURN-OUT: Part of the mammoth crowd that graced the rally

Chihana also went to town and slammed President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera policies saying they are enslaving, impeding and oppressing Malawians.

“They promised us cheap fertilizer, passports, jobs, mega farms among others, but three years down the line, Malawians have been relegated to be mere beggars than architects of development,” said Chihana.

On the Alliance with MCP, Chihana did not beat about the bush. He said he knew that the day Chakwera became the President that was the end of the Alliance.

He promised that within 100 days under his leadership in 2025, he will implement the following (4 F’s) strategy which stand for access to Food, having plenty of Fuel, affordable price of Fertilizer and having overflow of Forex that are crucial to socioeconomic transformation of the country.

Several MCP councillors today joined AFORD including controversial Chibavi East councilor Gabriel Mwaungulu.

The rally was attended by several top brass of the including, Secretary General Wakuda Kamanga, Vice President Green Mwamondwe, Director of Public Relations Chris Thaulo, Traditional Leaders among others.
