Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera has handed a three-year new contract to Malawi Police Service (MPs) Inspector General Merlyne Yolamu.
Presidential Press Secretary Anthony Kasunda has confirmed in an interview with a local media house.
Yolamu was appointed IG in July last year replacing George Kainja, who was relieved of his duties.
She is the second woman police chief in the country after Mary Nangwale whose appointment was not confirmed by Parliament.
MPs is a Malawi Government organ under the Ministry of Homeland Security.
MPS is overseen by the Inspector General (IG) who is appointed by the State President and confirmed by the Public Appointments Committee of the National Assembly.
The IG is assisted by two deputies who run the administration and operations, respectively.
