MHRC hails UNDP for technical support

Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has hailed the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) for providing the Commission with over $500 funding and car that will go long way to help in defending and safeguarding the fundamental human rights of the citizens in the country.

Speaking during the signing ceremony of the project in Lilongwe on Thursday, Executive Director of MHRC, Habiba Osman said her institution takes these donations done today very critical in improving the levels of human rights in the country 

“MHRC reaffirms its pledge, not only to safeguard and uphold these rights at all times but to strive to ensure that all people may exercise to its fullest.

We should exercise these rights and leave no one behind and particular focus to work on are the vulnerable and marginalized groups such as elderly, people with disabilities, elderly, people with albinism among others,” said Osman in a telephone interview with Malawi Voice.

In his remarks, UNDP Resident representative Shigeki Komatsubara expressed his happiness to work with an institution that has men and women of integrity, transparent and committed to safeguard the rights of Malawians across the board.

‘We pledge to make pledges relevant to the protection and promoting of human rights in the country,” he said.

UNDP’s core goal is for the sustainable development, democratic governance and peace building, and climate and disaster resilience.
