Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture, Richard Chimwendo Banda has donated K1 million to Chitipa United to help the team in carrying its TNM Super League assignments.
Chimwendo, who is also Youth Director for Malawi Congress Party (MCP), announced this at a rally he conducted on Saturday at Lifinya Primary School ground in Chitipa.
Speaking at the function, Chimwendo said he is overwhelmed with joy following the successful performance of the team that has been top clubs in town which have rich sponsorship.
Apart from community cohesion and integration, community football leagues and bonanzas are the heartbeat of any football national team in the world,” said Chimwendo Banda who is also MCP National Youth Director.
He also added that regardless of cultural diversity, sport disciplines have the capacity to bring the society together as sports bring happiness to the society.
“Sports break down barriers that divide us from one another and promote peace and harmony. Sports also prevent acts of vandalism. In summary sports is a religion that binds us,” said the Minister.
Chitipa United is going through stormy waters due to financial hitches though the team is so far the “giant killers” in this year’s TNM Super League. The team is currently on position 4 with 17 points.
