Lack of good roads and bridges continue to affect farmers when they want to sell their produce.
In a quest to ease this challenge the Transforming Agriculture through Diversification Entrepreneurship (TRADE) Programme among others is building bridges in such areas.
Speaking at Magala in Thyolo during a construction site handover ceremony, Director of Rural Development in the Ministry of Local Government, Chrissy Chiumia, said good road infrastructure in rural areas is important as it helps farmer’s access markets for their produce.
“When farmers have a good access to markets they make good gains from their produce,” said Chiumia
Trade Programme national coordinator Felix Lombe said they decided to construct the bridge considering that it connects two key milk producing areas.
“It’s our role as TRADE Programme to provide infrastructure that will enable smallholder farmers to fully commercialise,” said Lombe
