NANKHUMWA MEETS BOBI WINE IN UGANDA: let us tighten our mutual understanding-Bobi Wine

Malawi’s Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Dr. Kondwani Nankhumwa on Friday, July 14, 2023,met the leader of Uganda’s National Unity Platform, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.

The two leaders’ meeting, held at the party’s headquarters in Kamwokya, in Uganda’s Capital, Kampala, centred on a wide range of issues of mutual interest, including politics, economy, climate change, and civil conflicts ravaging some parts of the African continent. They agreed to deepen their mutual cooperation on many fronts.

In his remarks, Nankhumwa said opposition parties have a role to play in ensuring that democracy thrives in Africa.

“As opposition parties, we must reaffirm our commitment to the values of democracy as the bedrock and fundamental asset to socioeconomic transformation of our nations,” said Nankhumwa who is also Democratic Progressive Party ( DPP) presidential aspirant.

In response, Wine, acknowledged that opposition leaders have a critical role to play in ensuring peace and security in Africa by preaching peace and reconciliation.

Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu is popularly known by his stage name Bobi Wine. He is a renowned musician and actor. He is a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Kyadondo County East constituency in Wakiso District, in Uganda’s Central Region.

In January 2021, Bobi Wine contested as a presidential candidate on National Unity Platform ticket but he lost to the incumbent Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, a result which Kyagulanyi and a large section of the public strongly disputed.

During the meeting with Nankhumwa, Kyagulanyi was accompanied by Luis Rubongoya, Secretary General of National Unity Platform, and Kiyaga Hillary Innocent aka Dr Hilderman, who is also a renowned musician and MP for Mawokota County North.

Nankhumwa was in Uganda on a weeklong tour of duty. Among other engagements, he also met and held discussions with the Ugandan Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Mathias Mpuuga. He returns home on Saturday, July 15, 2023 through the Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe.
