SuperSport viewers on DStv and GOtv can look forward to action from the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, with Matchday 2 fixtures in the group stage set to be played from Tuesday 25 to Sunday 30 July.
DStv and GOtv is the only true home of football in Africa, offering a range and depth of action that no other rival can match – it’s literally ‘Unbeatable Football’! If you’re going to spend your money on something, it may as well be on the best football in the world.
The first African team in action in Matchday 2 is Zambia’s Copper Queens, who will battle Spain in Auckland on the morning of Wednesday 26 July. Attacker Grace Chanda is confident that her team can hold their own against the Spanish: “It will be a difficult match, but we are not here to just make up the numbers, we want to compete,” said the 26-year-old, who plays her club football for Madrid CFF.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria will come up against hosts Australia in Brisbane on Thursday 27 July, while Friday 28 July sees South Africa battle Argentina in Dunedin. The Nigerians will look to inspirational captain Onome Ebi, who believes the team can surpass their 20119 achievement of reaching the last 16.
“I want to tell Nigerians that we are going to Australia, not just to participate, but to surpass our record in the last outing. I believe we will make Nigerians proud,” said the 40-year-old.
The final African team is Morocco, who take on South Korea on Sunday 30 July in a Group H match in Adelaide. The Atlas Lionesses are hoping to be trailblazers in much the same way their male counterparts were at the 2022 Men’s World Cup in Qatar, where they became the first team from this continent to reach the semifinals.
“We want to go there and show that Morocco has made progress,” said coach Reynald Pedros. “Of course, we are inspired by [the men’s achievement at] the World Cup, it was fantastic. Even beyond the results, what was fantastic was the state of mind of this group which arrived there at this World Cup, not as favourites at all and they finished top of their group.”
No rival can compete with SuperSport’s coverage. Our viewers on DStv and GOtv enjoy an unrivalled selection of football from around the world!
