Leader of Opposition in Parliament Dr Kondwani Nankhumwa has described the 9- party Tonse Alliance Bloc as a ‘network of thieves” following a series of high profile corruption scams happening in government mainly in agriculture sector.
Nankhumwa was speaking in Blantyre where he conducted whistle stop rallies. He slammed President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera for failing to ramp down runaway inflation that is causing businesses to spur.
He said government of president Chakwera is “reckless” for implementing policies that have created massive disaster, despondence and uncertainty in economy and that Tonse Alliance’s exit from corridor of power is the only clinical remedy save the mess.
Citing constant rising of kitchen- table goods prices, fertilizer prices, depreciation of the kwacha, slowdown of growth among others as major reasons Chakwera and his government must go to hell.
Nankhumwa said that Malawi is a nation in decline because ‘Chakwera-economics’ has proven to be off the trail.
“We can longer feed ourselves as ADMARC depots are closed while the bag of maize is now at K50, 000 in the month of July- very strange!”
On ADMARC issue, Nankhumwa said: “Am giving President Chakwera 14 days to open ADMARC depots in the country otherwise Chakwera will be criminally liable for causing deaths in the country due to deprivation to right food.”
Nankhumwa also faulted government on the ID registration exercise saying government is not being sincere to Malawians mainly in the southern region for opening few centres of registration while in central region they have opened several centres.
Nankhumwa was accompanied by several MPs which included Nicholas Dausi, Sameer Suleman, Francis Phiso, Yusuf Nthenda, Masauko White, Ishmael Grant, Gertrude Nankhumwa, DPP’s Women Director Cecilia Chazama among others of which all ripped Chakwera for failing to implement his campaign promises.
