Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) says it has opened its campaign period ahead of an elective convention to be held at Natural Resources College in Lilongwe on 15 and 16 December
DPP’s Secretary General, Grezelder Jeffrey, said so far two people have shown interest in contesting for the Presidency of the party.
She further indicated that four people have shown interest in contesting for the seat of Vice President.
According to Jeffrey, the party is doing this to respect a court order.
Commenting on her removal as Secretary General based on a letter purportedly written by the party’s president, Professor Peter Mutharika, Jeffrey said she is not aware of her removal.
On 29th September this year, the High Court ordered the party to hold its NGC meeting and Convention within 90 days.
The opposition DPP has been engaged in unending battles in and outside courts since it was ousted from power in the June 2020 presidential election.
