Head of Legal Affairs of Parliament, who is a top Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Peter Dimba has attempted to water down the controversy ignited by Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Mapuyu South, Esther Cecilia Kathumba.
Kathumba incurred the wrath of some section of Malawi society after she proposed that Chakwera be granted the life presidency for “transformative leadership”
She made the suggestion in Lilongwe at Mzonde ground in Senior Chief Kalolo Chakwera was launching the US$350 million Transport and Land Compact.
But speaking later, Dimba claims that Chakwera had maintained that come 2030, she was leaving the State House as dictated by the constitution.
“It is coming direct from you, Mr President, that come 2030, you are adhering to the rule of law,” said Dimba, in an apparent attempt to water down Kathumb’s controversy.
