Cases of suicide rose to 597 in 2024 from 527 in 2023, Malawi Police Service (MPS) have said on Wednesday.
Deputy National Police Spokesperson Harry Namwaza disclosed that, out of these, 522 were males, while 75 were females.
Namwaza said debts and marital issues were the leading causes of suicide in the country.
