Chakwera Engages Regional Leaders on DRC Security Situation

President Lazarus Chakwera joined fellow heads of state and government from the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) on Monday evening for a virtual meeting to discuss the security crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

During the summit, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa commended the two regional blocs for their unity and commitment to addressing the ongoing instability in the DRC.

Kenyan President William Ruto, who co-chaired the meeting, praised DRC’s President Felix Tshisekedi and Rwandan President Paul Kagame for their dedication to resolving security challenges that impact the entire continent.

This was the second joint EAC-SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government, convened in response to the worsening security situation in the DRC. The first summit took place in Dar es Salaam on February 8, 2025.
