DPP’s Mike Ben Chitenje Backs Female Shadow Councillors in Blantyre

Senior Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) official for the Southern Region, Hon. Mike Ben Chitenje, has pledged his full support to female shadow councillors vying for positions in Blantyre.

Chitenje hosted the aspiring councillors at his residence on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, where he reaffirmed his commitment to empowering women within the party ranks.

During the meeting, Chitenje provided the women with financial assistance and party materials to boost their preparations ahead of the party’s upcoming primary elections.

He emphasized the importance of female participation in governance and encouraged them to remain focused and united as they campaign.

Present at the gathering were three female shadow councillors: Edina Kachepa, who is contesting in the Bizimarick Mibawa Ward; Atipatsa Chanza, standing for Mkolokoti Chikapa Ward; and Sadana Bakili, representing Chigumula BCA Ward.

Each of them expressed gratitude for the support and described the meeting as motivating and timely.

Also in attendance was Hon. Lous George Ngalande, a parliamentary aspirant for the Blantyre Chichiri Misesa Constituency under the DPP banner.

Ngalande commended Chitenje for his dedication to the party and for promoting inclusivity. He noted that such gestures are critical in strengthening the DPP’s grassroots structures and building confidence among emerging leaders.

Chitenje’s initiative aligns with the broader vision of DPP President, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, who has continuously advocated for proven leadership and the empowerment of women in politics.
