Mzimba, April 20, Mana: Government has assured companies constructing Jenda-Embangweni-Edingeni Road and M’mbelwa District Council office complex that it will do everything possible to have the two projects completed in the district.
The country’s Vice-President, Saulos Chilima, was speaking Monday during his visit to the projects which are being implemented with funding from Malawi Government.
“Jenda-Embangweni-Edingeni Road is amongst the 15 priority projects that government wants to finance under Local Currency Board Fund,” said Chilima.
He assured that funds will be available to finance the upgrading of the road project in a few weeks’ time.
Commenting on the office complex construction project, the Vice-President singled out two major challenges that have slowed down the completion of the much touted M’mbelwa District Council office complex.
He cited erratic funding and lack of supervision by the Ministry of Transport and Public Works as some of the factors slowing down completion of the project.
“We were supposed to complete this office complex in 2019, but we missed the deadline and we will also not meet the second deadline of October 2021.
“But we should be completing the office complex by April, 2022,” Chilima said.
He then assured DEC Construction Company Limited which is constructing the office complex to engage with the Ministry of Transport and Public Works on supervision works.
