DPP Condemns MCP ‘Thugs’ For Threatening Bon Kalindo

Namalomba: Arrest those Tonse-sponsored hoodlums

The main opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has condemned threats by governing Malawi Congress Party (MCP) supporters towards former UTM Party Director of Youth Bon Kalindo.

This follows violence that characterized anti-government protests last week Friday in Blantyre as video clips in which some suspected MCP supporters are seen with guns and knives threatening to kill Kalindo.

In a statement signed by DPP spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba, the party says it wants the Tonse Government to investigate and arrest the alleged MCP supporters issuing the threats and those that posed as anti-government protesters with an aim of disrupting the peaceful demonstrations.

“Arrest those Tonse-sponsored hoodlums who illegally marched in broad daylight for two consecutive days in the streets of Blantyre allegedly as anti-Friday demonstrations causing unnecessary terror, violence and victimization as well as loss of property and business,” reads the statement in part

The statement, among others, has also asked government to provide maximum security to all citizens holding peaceful demonstrations in the country.

Meanwhile, Minister of Homeland Security Richard Chimwendo Banda on Monday told parliament that police are investigating the matter.
