PARLIAMENT ADHERES TO COURT ORDER: Dr Nankhumwa back in the building

Clerk of Parliament Fiona Kalemba has invited Kondwani Nankhumwa to attend business meeting today, in his capacity as Leader of Opposition.

This comes barely hours after a High Court in Lilongwe temporarily nullified George Chaponda’s appointment as Leader of Opposition.

Reads Kalemba’s letter to Nankhumwa:”I have the honour to invite you to the above captioned meeting which will be held at Parliament Building in the Speaker’s Board Room.

“The main purpose of the meeting is to prepare for the Sixth Meeting in the 49th Session of Parliament.

“You are therefore being requested to attend this meeting in your capacity as Leader of Opposition.”

On Tuesday, Parliament issued similar invited to Chaponda following his appointment at a meeting in Lilongwe.

22 Members of Parliament from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) sought the court relief on Chaponda’s appointment on the basis that they were not invited to the meeting
