Chairperson for the Special Cabinet Committee on Coronavirus Jappie Mhango has confirmed a 5th case of Covid-19 in the country.
Mhango, who is also Minister of Health and Population, confirmed the development in Lilongwe during a Press briefing on Monday.
According to Mhango, the latest confirmed case is a woman from Blantyre who recently travelled to the United Kingdom (UK) and returned home on March 28, 2020.
The first case of Covid-19 was registered in the country on Thursday last week involving two Indians and a Malawi wile the fourth case was registered on Saturday in Blantyre.
Mhango further said that if the virus is to hit Malawi for a year, about 85 percent of the population could be infected.
Recently, Malawi President Peter Mutharika announced strict measures to help in the fight against the spreading of covid-19 in the country.
COVID-19, which is now a global issue, was first discovered in December 2019 in Wuhan City in China and has since killed thousands across the globe.
