Blantyre Synod Urges Members To Fast Against Covid-19

We believe in the power of prayer- Gama

Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Blantyre Synod on Monday urged its members to fast and pray for the Covid-19 pandemic to pass so that things get back to normal.

The synod’s general secretary, Reverend Dr. Billy Gama made the call in Blantyre during a press briefing aimed at updating members on measures put in place in an event of a lockdown.

“Be reminded that as a church, we believe in the power of prayer and all members are encouraged to seriously pray and fast for this pandemic. Every week we must dedicate at least a minimum of two days of prayer and fasting,” said Gama.

Meanwhile, the church has ordered its congregations to create a Whatsapp group where services of worship and all communications will be done.

He added that, the state broadcaster, Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) and Blantyre Synod Radio will be used for both prayer and Sunday school services from 7 O’clock in the morning and that all offerings must be directed to the respective congregations’ bank accounts.

“While services are provided at synod level, through MBC and Blantyre Radio, members are free to pray following their congregational prayers bulletins.

Each congregation must provide to its members accounts for Sunday offerings and tithe, so as not to deny the members opportunity to give for blessed is the hand that giveth,” explained Gama.

The General Secretary also appealed to churches and individuals to raise funds and items to support mission health centers with Personal Protective Equipment to ensure that the workers are safe.

Government last week announced the country’s lockdown in order to contain the spread of the disease until Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) obtained an injunction, restraining government from implementing it.

Several churches like the Roman Catholic have since directed their members to completely stop going to church but rather pray in their homes.-MANA
