Malawian doctors and other healthcare workers who are leading the fight against the devastating coronavirus in Malawi are facing ridicule from opposition and their agents who are questioning their credibility.
The opposition has mounted a campaign to dismiss the findings from the tests these doctors are conducting in independent laboratories.
The opposition are paying some of those that have been tested positive to reject the results.
And their agents such as politicians and some healthcare workers aligned to their political agenda are also publicly accusing the doctors of falsifying the figures.
In their politicization of the fight, the opposition has deliberately ignored the truth that the tests are being conducted at three laboratories that are not controlled by the Government.
These laboratories are the National Health Reference Laboratory in Lilongwe, the College of Medicine Laboratory; and the Malawi Liverpool Welcome Trust in Blantyre.
The teams conducting the tests include specialists from World Health Organization.
On Tuesday, Secretary for Health Dr. Dan Namarika said there was no motivation whatsoever for government to falsify anything concerning Covid-19.
“This is science. It is based on facts and evidence. And these facts and evidence are available to those who want to see them,” said Dr. Namarika
Healthcare workers in Malawi are among those in the front-line helping to protect Malawians from the disease that has affected 2.7 million people and killed more than 170,000 people worldwide.
WHO and United Nations (UN) warned last week that between 300,000 and 3.3 million people could lose their lives in Africa as a direct result of COVID-19.
