Malawi President Professor Arthur Pater Mutharika has commended the role played by workers in both public and Private sector in improving the social- economic development of the country.
President Mutharika made the remarks on Friday through a Press statement Signed by Presidential Spokesperson and Press Secretary, Mgeme Kalilani as the Malawi joins the rest of the world in celebrating Labour Day.
The Presidential Spokesperson, Kalilani said: “The President extends his gratitude to all workers in Malawi for their hard work to uplift the country and look after their families,”
The President also noted that this year, the Labour Day is being celebrated at a time when the global if fighting against Coronavirus pandemic which has claim the lives of thousands.
According to the statement, the pandemic has affected economies as many companies are unable to function to their optimum capacity and are finding it difficult to keep all their workers in the job.
Kalilani said the President Mutharika understands the situation which employers have found themselves in at this time of the pandemic and government has instituted a number of relief measures to protect the workers.
The President further applauded all companies and businesses which are working with the Government to protect their workers from coronavirus and to ensure that they maintain their jobs.
