Blantyre, May 4, Mana: Minister of Health Jappie Mhango on Monday revealed that the country has recorded two new more cases of COVID-19 bringing the total national numbers to 41.
The Minister revealed this in Blantyre during a hand over ceremony of a donation from Nacala Logistics to government where he said the two were Tanzanian nationals.
“In the past 24 hours we have registered two more cases. These are a 17 year old boy and a 26 year old man; these are all Tanzanians who had come to deliver essential to the country.
“When they entered into the country they become suspicious of themselves and approached our health care officers who quickly took samples that were sent to College of Medicine laboratory, and upon testing the samples came out positive,” said Mhango.
He however said it was disheartening to see that the numbers were growing at a rapid pace saying there was a need for the country to tread in carefully to avoid further spread of the disease.
Mhango has so far asked Malawians to adhere to all rules as set by government as lack of it will lead to tough times.
He then said the country continues to screen people in its borders according to the set rules however saying a team is meeting in Lilongwe to look at the set guidelines so as to find a balance in managing and containing the disease in the country.
“Most of the cases that we are registering now are being imported from Tanzania which is fast becoming an epicentre and indeed a continuous movement of people to and from Tanzania is becoming a threat for us, as such experts are reviewing these protocols so as we see how we can manage the disease,” said Mhango.
