MORE WALTER PLEASE: Nyamilandu secures football academy with FIFA

NYAMILANDU: The establishment of an academy is a game changer for Malawi football

Legendary football administrator Walter Nyamilandu Manda has once again done the country proud after securing a football academy with FIFA that will help to transform soccer in the country from the grassroot level.

According to FIFA websites, Malawi joins Mauritania and Djibouti in securing the deals.

“We are delighted that our project proposal to set up a football academy in partnership with FIFA/AFD is among the three that has been approved out of the many FAs that applied in Africa. We applaud FIFA for pioneering such a project and for according Malawi, such a rare privilege.

This has enabled our vision of setting up a fully fledged academy at Luwinga Technical Centre as an epic centre of football development to be a reality. This partnership with FIFA/AFD augurs well with completion of Luwinga Technical Centre which is in its final stages” said Walter Nyamilandu speaking with Malawi Voice.

Nyamilandu further said that the successful pilot of the Talent Develop Scheme (TDS) which we launched in the South last year with support of FIFA funding, compliments the academy project that has been announced by FIFA/AFD

“We are excited with such wonderful news which has been our pipe dream. The establishment of an academy is a game changer for Malawi football. This partnership with FIFA/AFD will set us apart and position us for greatness as we develop the top talent 360 degrees. The spin-offs of this project are huge as it will transform the lives of our players technically, socially mentally and economically by equipping them with football skills and empowering them with life skills to become successful in their career. We cannot wait for the revolution to gather momentum as we engage extra gear to produce high quality players with exceptional talent and disciplined behaviour,” said Nyamilandu.

In his remarks FIFA Director of Association Gelson Fernandez said emphasized the need for the associations to make this chance as a key in unlocking potential in identifying raw talents in their respective counties.

“Football can provide a lot of skills that you can take into life such as discipline, passion and commitment. We emphasise to all our member associations that they have a responsibility both to develop football and to give opportunities to kids, women and men within the country,” said Gelson Fernandes, FIFA Director Member Associations, Africa.

“This project brings all these things together – it is a beautiful project that we will finance with the AFD, and we hope we can do more in the future
