Irked traditional leaders during the meeting

Several traditional leaders in Rumphi District has expressed outrage on the decision by President Lazarus Chakwera administration to raise water tariff by 50% despite the financial constraints Malawians are going through.

chief Principal Chatumbwa and Chief Principal Mlongoti said they are ready to pitch demonstrations.

“We dont understand why government must raise the water tariff now as if water is drawn from Indian Ocean and yet it is just ‘stones throw’ distance. What makes it note sad is that consumers buy everything before Water Board connects water,” wondered the chiefs.

In his remarks, president of Rumphi Residence Association Mr Moir Walita said it is a sad day for poor Malawians to be subjected to such ‘slavery’.

Recently government raised the water tariffs and this has not go down well with Malawians
