Malawi President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s runningmate Austin Atupele Muluzi on Saturday conducted whistle stop tour in Eastern region ahead of fresh presidential polls slated for 2 July 2020.
Muluzi conducted the whistle stop tour barely a day after President Mutharika unveiled him as governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and United Democratic Front (UDF) runningmate for the polls.
Speaking to thousands of people who gathered at Mangochi Boma, Muluzi who is also cabinet Minister in President Mutharika’s administration urged people from the eastern region to vote for DPP-UDF alliance during the coming elections.
The UDF leader, Muluzi said the eastern region has enjoyed a number of developmental projects under President Mutharika’s administration citing Mangochi- Liwonde road, Mangochi Stadium among others.
“I want to urge you all to vote for President Professor Peter Mutharika during the fourth-coming presidential elections in order for the region to continue enjoying development projects,” appealed Muluzi
On youth empowerment, the incoming vice president Muluzi said government will continue providing soft loans to youth and women as one way of empowering them social-economically.
On her remarks, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Member of Parliament for Mangochi Central Constituency, Victoria Kingston said Mangochi residents are behind the DPP-UDF alliance and President Professor Peter Mutharika.
Malawi will hold fresh Presidential elections on 2 July 2020 following the nullification of May 2019 elections in which President Mutharika was declared the winner.
